Caribou migrate south into the subarctic forests before the winters hit. The forests provide enough shelter to prevent the forest floor from being too heavily covered in snow like on the tundra, but still have enough snow to have to paw through to get to the dead grasses and lichens below. If the weather gets particularly nasty, they will huddle together warmth. Thankfully they also have their thick fur coats to keep them from freezing to death in temperatures that often dip well below -40 degrees Celcius.
