humans listen to their sounds but they still don't know how to interact with humpback whales, but sometimes researchers put tags on the whales, so they can track the whales' movements, and also people in the 16oo's, 1700's, and 1800's hunted whales for their fat to burn for oil for lamps.

Orca (killer whales) are not normally dangerous to humans. For the most part they will ignore or avoid humans, however in rare cases Orca have attacked and killed humans that were harrassing them.
"Transient" Killer Whales, or rather Marine Mammal eating Killer Whales, will attack and kill various other species of whales and dolphins for food. Orcas in general live in tightly knit groups called "pods". These pods are led by a matriarchal female and generally divided into different sub pods and matrilines.
The Pacific Northwest is home to 3 known types of Killer Whales, The Transients, Residents (fish eaters), and the Offshores. These whales generally don't intermix with one another, they often for the most part avoid eachother. Resident Orcas have been seen chasing off Transient Orcas on occasion.
They do interact in same way other whales may do. They may see a boat and approach it cautiously then the may swim by the boat. This is why other whales are vulnerable to being hunted due to their natural curiosity like humans.
