Disconnect the battery. Take out the centre console and the cover from the gear lever. Remove the ashtray and cup holders. 2 screws hold in the stereo from underneath. they are inserted vertically. Once these are removed the unit slides out.
The removal of this head unit is quite a task. I found a PDF file that someone put together for installing something else. Either way it is a great how to on removing the Radio.

Yes the radio has to be on. The radio code can be for on a white sticker on the glovebox. open the box and look on the left hand side (outside) for your code.
If you have lost the radio code, there are two places to check for it. Open the glove box and on left hand side you will see two white stickers. One should be the 5-digit radio code. Someone, I am guessing in the Service Department of my local dealership actually wrote my radio code on the right strut mount in permanent marker.
You would have to call the dealership it came from in order to get the code, tell them the serial number and they'll be able to look it up.
