== == Christmas Day in contemporary Paris is much like it is in much of the Western world. It?s a national holiday and virtually all major attractions are closed. This means that, unless you are planning to visit Disneyland Paris, you should probably plan a day of relaxation for December 25th. On Christmas Eve, most Parisians pile into churches for midnight mass. The Christmas season in Paris begins on December 6th with St. Nicholas Day and continues through the first Sunday after January 1st with the Epiphany. New Year?s Day is also a national holiday in France, which means that many attractions are closed. Chances are, you are going to be ready for an easy and restful day after a somewhat eventful New Year?s Eve, but if you plan to sightsee on January 1st, it?s highly recommended that you first verify the place you intend to visit will be open.

The location is the Champs de Mars, which starts at the Palais de Chaillot, looking down the Champs, which is lined with lights and fountains, to the Tour Eiffel.

Answer

New Year's Eve in Paris is much like it is in the rest of the world. Options for activities on New Year's Eve are virtually limitless, from dancing the night away at a club in the Latin Quarter to ringing in the New Year with several million other people who jam (literally) the Champs De Elysees and the Champ Du Mar (in front of the Eiffel Tower) to bring in the New Year with fireworks, a light show, and lots of street partying. New Year's Eve in Paris really doesn't end so much as it just turns into New Year's Day morning. If you will be eating dinner on New Year's Eve, make sure you allow plenty of time to do so at least three hours (four if you are not eating near your midnight destination) and MAKE RESERVATIONS. Parisian restaurants are consistently crowded on New Year's Eve and if you don't have reservations, you may find yourself quite literally all dressed up with no place to go. The Metro stops between Charles De Gaulle and the Eiffel Tower are shut down temporarily between 11:45 and midnight, which means that if you are headed to the Champs De Elysees and aren't there by 11:45pm, you will probably be ringing in midnight on the train. Metro rides are also usually free between 10pm and 6am on New Year's Eve, for those who have just a little too much champagne. One word of caution: New Year's Day is a national holiday in France, which means that many museums and monuments are closed. See the question 'What is Christmas like in Paris? for more information.
