If you believe in a transcendant God you must admit that no religion can perfectly convey the Infinite One, or Truth. All religions belong to this world, their communication is imperfect. If you feel a need to belong to a religious group (some people do not) I would make a mental or even a written list of what you expect of a religious group and go shopping for the one that suits you best.

I believe teachings that help you grow spiritually and in loving fellowship are probably at the top of most people's lists. You should also feel free to switch religions or congregations if you aren't growing in Spirit.

Answer

A religion is either right or wrong it is impossible to chose which truth is right for you The truth is the truth. how you feel about it has nothing to do with it.

Answer

Most often people make this choice after asking the question, "Is there life after death?" Everything that follows this question, defines the spiritual journey they may choose to accept and the many they choose to reject this question comes to show that even if you spent your entire life searching for the "one true" belief to rest your hope on, that it would take even longer to sort through them all.

Answer

Individual Choice:

No one can choose for any individual; persuasion of thought regarding specific religions are all equally convincing in their own manner. Christianity (32% of the world population and dropping) and Islam (19% and climbing) are high on the charts for this reason. However, everyone should beware of religious fanatics, con artists, and cultists who may deceive. There are ways of finding "the truth," yet all stand together separate on this notion; sometimes the vastness of choices leaves one in doubt that any of them could be true, since all disagree and no two are truly alike. Even the hundreds of thousands of denominations within one branch can become overwhelming. The arguing becomes futile. The best way to find out would be, to make an informed decision. Study as much about the religions as you can, both the pros and cons, looking at it from both sides. Once you have found one that has the truth you are looking for, and fills a void that everyone has, you know that is rght for you. In finding the one, you will feel whole, just be careful for the ones out there that do not want you to be happy about your decision. Remember, it is YOUR decision.

OPINION

When they feel in their inner self that their life becomes better. When everything goes well. Some experience hardship, when they change their religion they feel reborn and regained peace. It just choosing a religion when they feel they are content and happy.

Answer

I also wondered that one day, I think religion has different ways to be 'chosen'.

I mean, very often people believe in some things because of their childhood, the religion most of their family is.

Opinion

Not all religions are the same, you first have to ask God to guide you to a church where the word of God is preached without alteration and where they believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. If a religion lacks any of this, you need to get to the word of God and seek answers.

EDIT:

most people stay in the religion their parents were in at the time they were born. when some get older they might decide it is best to stick to tradition to appease their parents and relatives. some on the other hand may find that the religion they are in now is not the right one. They will seek out other religions, until they find the religion which suits them best.

Opinion

For me, a religion has to be coherent, logical, intelligible and in continual dialogue with science (all sciences, not just empirical ones). It has to convey values that are in total agreement with human nature and nature in general.

To me, the only religion that meets these criteria is Roman Catholicism.

Answer

The religion you choose should not only be just something you do on the weekends or whenever, but a lifestyle. Don't follow any religion unless you actually believe what they teach, not just their lifestyle. Look up the evidence for each religion you are interested in- archeological digs can provide evidence for religious texts. Weigh the information carefully and see if the relgious book contradicts itself. Never take someone else's word on if it contradicts- read it for yourself.

Answer

How can a person know which religion is right?

(1) On what are its teachings based?

Are they from God, or are they largely from men? (2 Tim. 3:16; Mark 7:7) Ask, for example: Where does the Bible teach that God is a Trinity? Where does it say that the human soul is immortal?

(2) Consider whether it is making known the name of God. Jesus said in prayer to God: "I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world." (John 17:6) He declared: "It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service." (Matt. 4:10) Has your religion taught you that 'it is Jehovah you must worship'? Have you come to know the Person identified by that name-his purposes, his activities, his qualities-so that you feel you can confidently draw close to him?

(3) Is true faith in Jesus Christ being demonstrated? This involves appreciation of the value of the sacrifice of Jesus' human life and of his position today as heavenly King. (John 3:36; Ps. 2:6-8) Such appreciation is shown by obeying Jesus-sharing personally and zealously in the work that he assigned to his followers. True religion has such faith that is accompanied by works.-Jas. 2:26.

(4) Is it largely ritualistic, a formality, or is it a way of life?

God strongly disapproves of religion that is merely a formalism. (Isa. 1:15-17) True religion upholds the Bible's standard of morality and clean speech instead of weakly going along with popular trends. (1 Cor. 5:9-13; Eph. 5:3-5) Its members reflect the fruits of God's spirit in their lives. (Gal. 5:22, 23) So, those who adhere to true worship can be identified because they sincerely endeavor to apply Bible standards in their lives not only at their places of meeting but in their family life, at their secular work, in school, and in recreation.

(5) Do its members truly love one another?

Jesus said: "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves." (John 13:35) Such love reaches across racial, social, and national boundaries, drawing people together in genuine brotherhood. So strong is this love that it sets them apart as being truly different. When the nations go to war, who have enough love for their Christian brothers in other lands that they refuse to take up arms and kill them? That is what early Christians did.

(6) Is it truly separate from the world?

Jesus said that his true followers would be "no part of the world." (John 15:19) To worship God in a manner that he approves requires that we keep ourselves "without spot from the world." (Jas. 1:27) Can that be said of those whose clergy and other members are involved in politics, or whose lives are largely built around materialistic and fleshly desires?-1 John 2:15-17.

(7) Are its members active witnesses concerning God's Kingdom?

Jesus foretold: "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." (Matt. 24:14) What religion is really proclaiming God's Kingdom as the hope of mankind instead of encouraging people to look to human rulership to solve their problems? Has your religion equipped you to share in this activity, and to do it from house to house as Jesus taught his apostles to do?-Matt. 10:7, 11-13; Acts 5:42; 20:20.

Answer

simple all you need to do is pray.

Yes, that's right, pray as much as you can, and try to gain knowledge as much as you can, the most religion near to your heart will be the one.

People don't always give a good example of their religions, or at least the image one takes about other religions may obey one's own bias, or the side of the truth that reached him

"the only way that we may find the truth about anything is to approach it systematically and logically. 1st, we weigh the evidence and then we judge it by the intelligence that distinguishes humans from animals, which act purely on instinct. After determining what the objective truth is, we must then commit ourselves to it emotionally. Emotional commitment is essential because it is evidence of a true understanding. When one fully and properly understands the reality of the issue, one is then mentally and spiritually prepared to vigorously uphold that reality.." {The true message of Jesus, Dr A. B. Philips}

The answer lays in what that person is looking for. One person told me that he picked the Mormon religion cause it fit his belief in evolution, "man will evolve into a god"; another person I know chose Kenneth Hagan, Fred Price and Craflo Dollars brand of religion for their message of, "God didn't mean for you to be poor".I know one Christian minister personally and know for a fact that he became a minister in order to serve himself and having known him for years, no matter how much he denies it, he has one of the worse disorders a preacher can have, EGOMANIA because it all becomes about him for stealing in the name of The Lord is his game and his infamous fame. I know a guy born here who decided to become a Singh for their quest for wealth, he said he has ever known a poor Singh. One obvious hypocrite I know who was smart enough to realize all of the sex he could get as a Jehovah Witness from sexually repressed females of which I have known to have quite a lusty appetite behind closed doors. Common sense tells you that many a Catholic priest joined "their thing" because they look "holy" and venerable being celibate which in most cases that word is an oxymoron for as long as they fight (what they have no desire for) that manly lust for the normal and natural desire for the good stuff that smells like the real thing and not that cheap funky substitute that the institutionalized " incarcerant" settles for but what they do has nothing to do with destroying trust and innocence as "buggering" little boys does. Then there is Emeth (Hebrew for truth) who has enough depth to realize that since there is a thousand religions out there, all claiming truth but conflicting with one another with their pet doctrines, it all must be about the Truth. Emeth started out has a Catholic (baptized , educated and raised) but one day he heard the truth and that truth resounded in his heart so he knew it was the truth and he left the cult of the "Queen of Heaven". Well, Emeth had to start somewhere and as he matured in the knowledge of his faith he found that he had developed a personal relationship with his God which trumps religion. What Emeth was looking for and found was the TRUTH.

ANSWER

The best religion for you is the one that makes your soul sing, like I like to say. I personally believe that God, the Creator of All That Is, is too vast for a human mind to comprehend. So, He will come to any given individual in a form which the individual will understand best. And IF the individual is willing to listen to God when He comes, then the person will naturally drift to a spiritual/religious path that will enable them to "hear" God better.

Like others have pointed out, there are unfortunately countries with pre-determined religions which are imposed on the population, so that makes it harder for individuals to actually choose. But in the end, Allah and Yahveh and Buddha and Jesus and Jehovah and the Goddess and the Manitou and what-have-you all lead you to the Divine Creator, if you know how to LISTEN when the Creator manifests Itself to you.

So, to choose a religion... FOLLOW YOUR SOUL :)

ANSWER

There are over 350,000 deities in human culture that are spread over hundreds and hundreds of different religions, and many of those religions have 1,000's of sects or denominations with varied beliefs. Many of those such religions claim to have the only real truth and that all the other religions are outright wrong.

Christianity is one of those such religions even though it has in iteself around 5,000 denominations with varied beliefs and each denomination claims to be the only truth and that the other 4,999 are in error, not wrong just in error.

So if there is really one religion out there that has it totally right and holds the pure truth, given the number of deities and the number of religions and the number of the sects/denominations within those religions your odds of finding it in your lifetime are about 1.5 million to 1.

So just sit back flip a coin and chose a superstition that interests you and one day when you die you will find out if your gamble paid off.

ANSWER

Usually people will stay with the religion that they are raised in. However, if they choose not to, or were never raised in any particular one to begin with, they usually study numerous religions, & decides which one works best for them.

Is there an age to choose religion?

It depends on what type of person you are. Some people are raised as a member of a particular religion and never choose for themselves, whereas others may choose to become, for example, a Buddhist when their parents are christian. In other words, anyone can choose there religion at any age, assuming they have the capability to do so. As far as I know, most religions have their "coming of age" ceremonies at the age of twelve, so that is when it is generally recognized that you are mature enough to have made your own decision on which religion you choose.
