Best Answer

Possums are not aggressive and they do not attack. True possums - the marsupials found in many parts of Australia - are docile creatures and just want to be left alone. If trapped, like any other animal, they become scared for their life and will defend themselves, but they do not attack.

Possums are quite different creatures to opossums.

Possums (different from opossums) are marsupials native to Australia and nearby islands. They are not friendly, preferring to avoid human contact. If cornered, they can bite and scratch sharply. Nor are they friendly with other possums, being extremely territorial and inclined to fight viciously over their home territory.

Australian possums are not aggressive, but they are territorial. Many a suburban house has been subjected to hissing and possum-fights in the roof space as young possums come in, trying to take territory for themselves.
