How do rabbits raise their young?

Rabbits are able to breed and have bunnies at any time past the age of 6 months. Both the bucks and does fertility increases in warmer, lighter weather but artificial light does help in winter. Rabbit are what we call reflex ovulators. The first time they are bred causes the doe to release eggs. The second time they are bred, which is 2-8 hours later, is when the eggs get fertilized.

Always bring the doe to the bucks cage. Make sure you watch, its not being nosy. This is so you know they bred and also so you can break up a fight if it happens. If they do fight remove the doe and try again later. I wait till they "do it" twice then I remove the doe. Then I breed again 4 hours alter and let them "do it" twice. Now, your doe should be pregnant. Make sure to put a nest box in on day 29 after breeding. Put shaving in the bottom and add some hay. Put it in a corner of the does cage where she doesn't go to the bathroom. She should soon start to pull fur. Usually rabbits kindle the night of day 31 when everything is quiet. But it can be as early as day 29 or as late as 33.

If the doe knows you well handle the kits right away for a health check and to get them used to humans. But don't handle them until they are a day old otherwise the doe might cannibalize. Other causes of cannibalism are : fright during kindling : malnutrition while pregnant.

Kits will start hopping out of the nest box as soon as their eyes open which is 2 weeks after birth. It is also then when they start to eat hay and pellets. Take the nst box out between day 14-19. When they are 4 weeks old take the biggest one out of the cage and put it in a separate cage. Then the next day take the second biggest out, etc.. They are now living without mom and will be constantly eating pellets, hay, greens, etc.. When they are 7 weeks old they are ready to go to new homes. If you still have the kits together at 9 weeks put them in a separate cage ALONE. Otherwise they will start fighting or even worse mating. When brothers and sisters mate it is called inbreeding. This will cause mutations and possible death.

It is impossible for rabbits to produce chickens for many reasons. First, chickens and rabbits cannot mate for they have different forms of mating. Second, it would be impossible because a chicken lays an egg, and a rabbit gives live birth. Third, in order to have chicken babies, you need two chickens. You would get a hybrid baby if a rabbit and a chicken had babies, which is a half chicken, half rabbit thing. Well, the farmer must have a special injector that can inject the chicken's srirm into the rabbit's vagina. Then he must take the chicken from hear the rabbit while she gives birth (she will not know who the father actually is). When she gives birth, the babies should have either: A rabbit's body with a beak, claws, strange head movement or... A chicken's body with rabbit ears, hopping sensations in legs and a rabbit tail. Make sure all chicken-bodied babies have plenty seeds in their rabbit crunches and the rabbit-bodied babies have plenty of rabbit crunches in their troughs.
