I know how bad a cold sore could be but the best way is cleaning it every hour with soup and water on a paper towel and the puss will come out. Also you can use abreva or other. Good luck will your cold sore hope this helps.

it has to run its course but here are a few things to do to avoid the intensity of the cold sore and its symptoms. Don't expose yourself to the sun for long periods of time, get lots of rest, don't pick at it, this will only make it spread. If you do touch it, WASH your hands immediately! Stay away from foods like chocolate and peanut butter. Use a warm tea bag and place it on the cold sore for about 30 minutes. Ice also helps relieve the inflammation. Keep it covered with an ointment whether its medicinal or something like Carmex (OTC). Sleep or rest is very important because your immune system is compromised during this time. You can also buy Abreva (OTC) which works very well on the symptoms or have your doctor prescribe Acyclovir which is an ointment for viral infections. The sooner you start to treat the symptoms, the sooner it will go away (back into it's dormant state). REMEMBER, WASH your hands even after applying these ointments. Stress, weather, long exposure to extreme temperatures either hot or cold, an unhealthy diet are predisposing factors for the virus to come out of its dormant stage.

Take Vitamin C as soon as the tingling starts, before the cold sore starts to show or hurt. This will shorten the period of time you have the cold sore. Avoid stress, avoid foods that are high in acid (tomato-based sauces, ketchup, pickles, coffee, cola, and highly spiced foods).

Use milk of magnesia, you can find this in grocery stores or pharmacies (Food Lion, Rite Aid, etc.). Shake well and put some on your cold sore using your finger. You should feel your cold sore start to throb a little and the milk of magnesia will dry after a few minutes. Since it is white, you should put on before you go to bed and wipe it off with a wet rag in the morning. Your cold sore should go away within a couple of days. Works really fast!

Aside from simply waiting for the sore to die down (which could take a while), generally the only two ways to treat the sore are pills or creams. Some of them are prescription only, such as Penciclovir, but there are over the counter options too. Note that since the underlying virus has no cure, the cold sore won't really be gotten rid of - it will come back eventually.

A cold sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus and will generally clear up in time. I did have one student in my classroom who kept picking at a cold sore and now has a scar in that area.

Can cold sores be passed on to somebody else?

YES they can. Cold sores are caused by a contagious virus called oral herpes. They are commonly passed by kissing when some one has a cold sore an kisses some one that doesn't have them. It's also slightly possible to get cold sores by sharing utensils or drinks with some one that has a cold sore. It's safer to kiss and share food when some one doesn't have any signs of a cold sore.

What to do after you accidentally drink after someone with a cold sore?

Don't freak out. It's not too common to get cold sores this way. You would have to take a drink with in seconds of some one with a cold sore doing so. The virus that causes cold sores doesn't live on objects for long periods of time, it also doesn't like to live in fluids. You would be more likely to get a cold sore if you kissed this person on the mouth.

How can you prevent somebody else from getting cold sore?

Cold sores are very contagious during a break out. If you have a visible cold sore then don't share things like utensils or cups when you have a break out. You also shouldn't be kissing any one (specially children) on or around the mouth until the cold sore has completely gone away. You should also know cold sores can also be spread during oral sex. If you give some one oral sex while you have a vsible cold sore you could pass it to your partner's genitals. It's safer to do those things in between break outs or when you have no signs or symptoms of a cold sore.

Can you get cold sores from a girl who has one by cunnilinigus?

Cold sores are spread by skin-to-skin contact with an infected person, at the location where the virus is active, during a time when they are shedding virus. If a girl has a cold sore, and you kiss her genital area (where no sore is) but not her mouth (where the sore is), you are not likely to get infected.
