How do you beat the scorpion in poptropica?

The 13th Island in Poptropica is "Skullduggery Island", which opened June 17th, 2010.

The game involves sailing among the islands in an ocean : accumulating doubloons, trading cargo, gaining larger ships, and battling pirates and sea creatures.

A brief narrative of Skullduggery Island

So first, walk around Fort Ridley, talk to everybody, get a feel for the place. Then go under the covered bridge and go left. Then pick up the doubloon. Go to the general store and buy the animal feed with the doubloon. While you are in there, get the broken mirror. Then go outside and give the feed to the guy with the chickens. He will give you a chicken. Take the chicken and give it to the guy with the bug eaten corn. The chicken will eat the bugs and the guy will give you a blue candle. Take the candle up to the mansion, and use it so that it shows the hidden blue writing. It says that Governor Ridley hid the five pieces of the map on the five islands surrounding Fort Ridley. It also says that once Captain Crawfish is defeated you can get the treasure. The living governer says once you beat Captain Crawfish and find the map, you can get the treasure.

Then, go outside to the tower. Look through the telescope. Move the telescope until you see the raft. Signal to it with the broken mirror. It comes to shore. The merchant says that you can have his raft, and then shows you a guide sheet that says things about being a merchant. That annoying little kid and practically dead old man come, but they don't do much. Then go to any of the surrounding islands. I started with Golden Harbor (the one furthest to the south).

Golden Harbor

At Golden Harbor, all the lights are connected. When you turn one on two turn off. There is an archway that gives you the combination for the piece of the map. Turn on the light that the combination says, but is on the right side of the island. Then turn on the the one that the combination says, but is the furthest of the remaining two from your ship. Then turn on the last light. Go and get the map, which falls from the archway. Go to the trading post, and sell anything you have. Then buy as much as you can in grain. Proceed northwest to Pirate Outpost.

Pirate Outpost

At Pirate Outpost, follow the signs to the cannery. To get there, go to the little patch of land on the left of the big skull, then go up to the platform with all the cannonballs. Jump on it then go to the cannery. By the cannery there is a cannon starter kit. Pick it up. Then push the barrel of explosives right under the golden tooth of the big skull. Fire the cannon facing towards the skull, and it should hit the explosives. The barrel explodes, and knocks the tooth out. The map is where the tooth was. Go to the trading post, sell the grain and buy as much as you can in spices. Proceed north to Dragon Cove.

Dragon Cove

At Dragon Cove, stand on the flouting statue. It brings up the mallet. When you hit the bell with the mallet, the fish jump out of the water. Position the guy fishing on a box so that when the big fish jumps out, the guy catches it. The map is in the fish's mouth. Then go into the archway by the geisha. The ship vendor is in there. Check if you can buy the smallest ship he has. If you can, buy it. Every time you come back to Dragon Cove, check if you can buy the ship. Go to the Trading Post. Sell the spices, and buy as much as you can in silk. Proceed east the Bouffant Bay.

Bouffant Bay

Getting the map in Bouffant Bay is probably the easiest way to get the map there is. You just go to where the hanging ferns are, and hit them, in this order. Farthest away from dock, closest to dock, and middle. Then the map falls out of the middle one. Go to the trading post. Sell the silk, and anything else you have, and buy as much as you can of medicine. Proceed south the Parrot Port.

Parrot Port

At Parrot Port, go into the pub, and get the cracker. Find the parrot, who will tell you to jump into the sea then find him. Go jump into the sea. When you see him again, he will tell you to clog the vent, and see where he went. Go to the pub and on the roof there is a smoke stopper for the chimney. Jump on it. Then go find the parrot. He will tell you to find the pirate he knows at the tower. Go and talk to the old pirate at the tower, who says you'll get a reward if you bring him his parrot. Go to the ground and use the cracker. You person should yell, "Polly want a cracker? Come and get it!". The parrot flies to you and follows you around. Lead him to the pirate on the tower. The pirate will give you the map. Go to the trading post. Sell the medicine. Don't buy anything. Proceed southwest to Golden Harbor.

When you have all of the map, put it together. It reveals the hidden island, Skullduggery Island. That is where the treasure is.

The key to getting enough money to buy a warship (which you need to defeat Captain Crawfish) is trade.

Buy grain cheap at Golden Harbor. Since there is tons of salvage in that area, that is what you sell.

Sell the grain for high prices at Pirate Outpost. Buy spices cheap.

Sell the spices at high prices at Dragon Cove. Buy silk cheap.

Sell the silk at high prices at Bouffant Bay. Buy medicine cheap.

Sell medicine at high prices at Parrot Port. Don't buy anything.

Whenever you have salvage, sell it at the next port.

You make lots of money off of this. Every time you can upgrade you ship, do so. Better ships have bigger cargo, and the more space you have, the more stuff you can buy at low prices and sell at high ones. Buy the time you have the second largest ship, you are making 100,000 doubloons off of every trade.

When you have a larger ship, more ships will want to attack you. It becomes necessary to hire the navigator (more speed), and the shipwright (repairs at sea.) The navigator is in the pub at Parrot Port and the shipwright is by the ship vendor in Dragon Cove. Hire the cargo master as soon as you can, because more cargo space means more money made. He is found in the warehouse in Bouffant Bay.

Captain Crawfish

Once you have the warship, go to the waters surrounding Skullduggery Island to battle Captain Crawfish. You must kill him quickly, because he also has a shipwright. I found the easiest way to do it is anchor and just shoot at him. Once you have put his health meter all the way down, he runs away. Go back to the mansion on Fort Ridley and talk to the governor. He gives you a map that says walk six paces right of the flag and use the special shovel to get the treasure. Once you have dug it up, Captain Crawfish and his crew come to take the treasure. But your annoying little cabin boy shoots their ship and leaves them there. You don't even get to costumize like Captain Crawfish. You are transported back to the mansion, where you get the medallion. Smooth Sailing!

Cerberus is the three-headed dog creature in Hades. Play the reed pipe song that lulls him to sleep (blue green yellow blue red green) and take a whisker.

The dogs, in mansion row or Loch Ness, are not part of the quest.

You simply go into the museum and read the journal to find the pass code is "open". Next you will find the translation key on top of the ruins. Jump on to the tree with the gray block and jump to the top of the ruins to gain the key. Next just spell "OPEN" with the key and viola. You solved the hieroglyphics.

There are "monsters" on several islands:

Shark Tooth Island

Find the three ingredients and mix a potion to feed to the giant shark.

Astro Knights Island

Defeat the three robot monsters on the planets of jungle, fire, and ice. The Laser Lance will build a charge if you hold down your mouse key, then release it. The Ice Arrow can be fired into the dragon's mouth (3 times), but only once each time you sneak over the top and throw the lever on its back. The force shield can bounce the Tigercopter's round snowballs back at him.

Mythology Island

The Hydra can be defeated by jumping up when it tries to hit you with each of its heads, then coming down on top of each head to knock it out. The three-headed dog Cerberus can be soothed to sleep with the reed pipe, playing blue-green-yellow-blue-red-green.

Steamworks Island

1) Use the vine to pull down a steam pipe on the underground plant monster.

2) Slam the hatches shut on the vines for the Hub monster.

3) Mix a herbicide in the lab to use on the Production Zone monster.

4) Run fast past the conveyor belt monster.

5) Use the Weed Whacker on the storeroom elevator monsters and the small ones below the hibernation room.

6) For the final three bosses, duck when they attack with their heads, and shoot the small projectiles, and jump back to avoid the falling caterpillar bombs. Work fast to beat the acid.

Red Dragon Island

Fly behind the Red Dragon and shoot his head with water from the Blue Dragon.

Turn the walkway stones flat to cross over the top of the pit. When the diagram shows (-|--), press the first, third, and fourth lines so that they all line up (----).
