It should tell you how in the car owner's manual. It's probably a different process in the 2000 and later models.
To calibrate compass you need to drive two full 360 degrees turns and this will calibrate your compass. If the calibration is not successfully completed, then you have to go to dealer to install a magnetic plate to help calibration
HI, You usually have to pick your Zont in time and then hit the calibrate button.......Then you drive slowly in a very small circle till it calibrates. This doesnt work for me for some reason so I set the compass manually. Find North where you are. Point the car to North Keep pushing the Zone button till the North needle points to North. When you have the needle at North you are done!! Works great, fast to setup, easily changed when you go on a long trip.........Drive Safe
In most cases you press the reset button on the compass and then drive in circles (in a parking lot) while it calibrates.
I would imagine you are trying to set the on board compass, these require to circle on full lock whilst they self calibrate.
Small magnets are rotated to "null out" local magnet fields so the compass will accurately align to magnetic North.
The compass needs calibrating, very easy to fix. Take your car to a parking lot and drive it in circles 1 or 2 times. It's in the manual.
Are you certain that it needs actual repair and not just recalibration?
In the compass held inside a plastic ball filled with liquid on the dashboard:)
I know this sounds stupid but drive around in a circle 3-6 times one way then the other.
If the compass is indicating incorecctly, you are using it wrong, or it is mis-magnetised. Read the instructions or have the compass replaced. If the compass is in a automobile follow the manufacurers installctions and calibrate it. If it is still wrong, trouble shoot excessive magnetism and have the compss replaced; If the compass is in an aircraft, have an A&P (Aricrafe and Powerplant) certified machanicr replaci it If it is still wrong, troubl shoot excessive magnetism and have the compss replaced;
Find a parking lot with some room and drive in circle's it usually take about 3 or 4 circles. You only need to be going at idle speed.
Your automatic dimming rear view mirror may not be working as well. If so, you have a blown fuse. A 5 amp fuse I believe.
