The fronts are easy but the rear have springs that must go in certain places. Get a manual from the parts store or AUTOREPAIR2000.COM

Remove the caliper bolts, caliper mounting flange, rotor. Install new rotor. Remove pads from caliper, wire brush and clean all contact surface and hardware including caliper pins. Lubricate all of them with disc caliper grease. Note how you removed everything so it goes back correctly. Torque down pins. Gently brake for first 50-100 stops.

The '95 Grand Marquis uses two 3157 (dual intensity incandescent) and one 194 bulbs. The 194 is a side marker, but it is still in the brake light assembly.

Open the trunk and peel back the carpet from the seam in the corner. You'll need to remove the upper cargo net anchor. There are four plastic wing nuts with foam insulators that hold the brake light to the body.

Remove all four wing nuts and carefully wiggle the assembly free. Turn the bulb socket a quarter turn and pull it out to reveal your burned out bulb.

It's always a good idea to wear gloves when handling the bulbs as the oil from your skin can damage the bulb.

Replace the bulb and perform the steps backwards.

Consider high quality SMD (Surface Mounted) LED (Light Emitting Diode) brake lights (easily found on eBay through seller warden-jp2002) for faster and brighter brake lights. They can improve the reaction time of the drivers behind you. The turn signla flasher will not have to be changed for it is not thermal, but heavy duty electromagnetic relay.

Remove wheel/tire assembly. Look at the back of the callipers and locate two slide pins, covered with a rubber boot to prevent corrosion. You can remove the cap of the boot with your fingers or a flathead screwdriver. Using a T45 torx bit or 7MM hex bit, unscrew two slide pins. You may hve to use needlenose pliers to pull the pins out just a millimeter or so to clear the mounting bracket. On the front of the calliper, there is a retaining spring. Pry this up and over the calliper mount. All you need to do now is wiggle the calliper while pulling it up and off the mount. The outter brake pad is loose and will fall off when you remove the calliper. Support the calliper with wire so that you don't damage the hose.

If you have wear sensors, undo the wiring harness and remove the inner pad. Using a C-clamp and a small block of wood, push the piston back in, so that the new pads will clear the rotor. Fluid may spill from the master cylinder. Install the new inner pad, and reconnect wear sensor if equipped. Install outter pad, as you line up and install the calliper. Tighten the slide pins and re-install the boot caps.

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE EMERGENCY-BRAKE SET-UP ON THE GRAN MARQUIS IS SELF-ADJUSTING TO A POINT. INSIDE THE REAR ROTORS ARE BRAKE SHOES (THESE ARE LIKE THE OLD DRUM-BRAKES, ONLY SMALLER) AND IF THE LINING IS WORN DOWN ON THOSE SHOES, THEN YOU WILL HAVE NO EMERGENCY BRAKE. BOTH REAR AXLES WILL HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES SINCE THE DIAMETER OF THE SHOES IS THE SAME AS THE DIAMETER OF THE AXLE FLANGES MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO R&R THE BRAKE MOUNTING HARDWARE.

Changing brakes is an important task to keep a car working well. Lift the car, remove the tire, brake shoe/caliper, remove the brake pad, put in the new brake pad, replace the brake shoe, tire and lower the car.
