The battery on a 1977 Corvette is located behind the drivers seat, in the storage compartment farthest to the left of the vehicle. To remove the battery, open the storage compartment door. Remove the negative cable first before anything else so there is no danger of grounding out the positive terminal. The negative terminal is always black, and has a - (minus) sign on the battery. Next , remove the positive cable from the battery . Finally, remove the battery hold down . This is usually a long bolt and metal plate, or it may be a strap , and the battery should lift straight out of the storage compartment. Be careful not to tip the battery over, or make contact between the battery terminals.
Installing the new battery is the reverse process. Make sure to install the positive cable before the negative . This helps to prevent grounding out the positive cable .
