Best Answer

Baking soda with lemon juice (make into a paste and use rubber gloves) and use a sponge to rub it on the tub and leave for an hour. Go back and use SOFT steel wool for the tough spots and rinse well.

Replacing an old bath tub can be a major expense. Not only do you have to go out and buy a brand new tub, but you probably will have to have a plumber or other professional remove your old tub and install the new one. If you don't have the budget for changing out your bath tub, there is a very good and practical solution to getting a clean, new look.

There are a number of companies that specialize in retrofitting old bath tubs with an acrylic liner that makes an old, scratched and rusty tub look brand new. Instead of the expense of a brand new tub that can easily exceed $1,000, with a retrofit liner, you will have, for all practical purposes a shiny, clean new tub at a fraction of the price of buying and installing a completely new tub.

Tubs get neglected over the years. Hard objects may fall in the tub and chip the ceramic finish. You ,ay have some small scratches in the surface because you tried to move rust stains around the drain with steel wool. If you have mineral rich water, heavy in iron, your bath tub can easily stain. These are some reasons why tubs need to be replaced or renewed.

Go down to one of the large chain home improvement stores and take a look at the new bath tubs. They look pretty nice until you see some of the prices. If you are not willing to part with so much of your hard earned money, but still want a new tub, head on home and call a company that will put a new liner over your tub.

When you order a new liner, an estimator will come out to your house and take measurements of your existing bath tub and shower. Armed with the proper measurements, an installer will come back and fit an acrylic cover over your bath tub. Often times the factory made liner will fit over your dingy old shower wall as well as the tub. A one piece unit will fit seamlessly over your existing tub and the surrounding walls.

You'll once again be able to bathe in a smooth, clean tub.
