There are several methods for cleaning wheels. There are a couple of devices that use special pads and solvent to clean the wheels of the locomotive when it is set on them. Check the Walthers catalog or website. Some modelers apply a light oil to the track and run the trains across the track several times. This will loosen dirt on the track and wheels which is then easily wiped off with a lint free cloth.
With a large pink eraser. Just firmly run it over each track. I've cleaned mine for years with one. There's no fabric/lint snagging or residue left over to tangle in your engines.
