If it is connected correctly you may have use the TV remote to turn the TV to display what you are connected too. ( some TVs connect the PS3 to Video 1 or Video 2 or component 1 or S video etc) If it is with an HDMI connection set the HDTV and the PS3 to allow the HDMI connection to function

∙ 14y agoNo. Only HDTVs have the HDMI cable inputs. But PlayStation 3 can be used as a Blu-Ray player since they can play Blu-Ray discs

Should you buy an AV cable or a HDMI cable for your ps3?
The PlayStation 3 comes with an A/V Cable for non HDTV reception. If your HDTV has only Component connections then you should purchased the PS3 component cable, otherwise purchase the HDMI cable. The component cable has a number of plugs which must be connected to the HDTV and the HDMI has only a single plug so is the preferred method to connect the PS3 to the HDTV.

No, you don't need a HDMI cable for your PS3. this feature is optional. What it does is it increases the resolution of your PS3 meaning you get better graphics. The HDMI cable allows the the HDTV and the PS3 to sync and also provides a single plug hookup with the PS3. The higher resolution can also be achieved with the purchase of a Component AV cable for the PS3 from stores like target.com for HDTVs that do not have a HDMI connection. Only the supplied PS3 cable with only 3 RCA type plugs would have decreased resolution on a HDTV, but for non HDTVs it's the only connection with the PS3 that's I know of that's possible. see accessories for the PS3 in the related link

I'm assuming by AV1 you are referring to a non-HD input (AV1 doesn't mean anything outside of the names assigned by a company to the inputs on its brand of televisions). When this occurs, turn on the PlayStation 3 system as usual while connected via HDMI and hold down the Power button. The system will then attempt to identify which connection you are using. It may take more than one try, but it will eventually detect the HDMI cable.

Is there adapters for component cables to HDMI cables?
Analog component signals are completely different to digital HDMI. There is no simple adaptor cable because the analog signals require processing to convert to digital. There are converter units that will perform the processing as dedicated converters but it may also be possible to use other equipment such as DVD recorders. Many have analog inputs with an HDMI output and it is often possible to route a signal straight through the unit. Converting from HDMI to analog component is rather harder. In fact it is not possible to do it using authorized hardware. HDMI uses a copy protection system known as HDCP which encodes the signal. Converting that HDMI signal to analog removes the copy protection and no legitimate devices are available that will remove copy protection. There are some exceptions to the HDCP system, mostly for non commercial content but in these cases, there are normally easier ways to obtain analog copies. There are a handful of unauthorized converters but be warned that even if they operate now, they can be disabled if they are known to be unlicensed devices. I don't know about the truthfulness or accuracy of the above information , but a PS3 has an HDMI input and does have optional cables that have a component connection at the HDTV side and a HDMI connection on the other side. They ran about $30 and are designed to connect a PS3 to a HDTV with component cables and may work for your connection
