I want to use my laptop monitor as the monitor for both my laptop and my desktop so if I run a dvi-HDMI cable from the dvi port on your desktop to the HDMI port on your notebook will this work?
No. The DVI port on your computer is output only. However, you may be able to find a USB TV tuner card with DVI input that would allow you to pull this off.
Yes, a DVI input will usually accept an HDMI signal via an adapter cable but make sure the TV input is HDCP compliant otherwise protected content, such as Blu-ray movies, will… not be viewable. Also be aware that DVI inputs do not carry any sound, so you will need to connect the PS3 audio with a separate cable to the TV or amplifier. Many TVs have a pair of phono inputs for this purpose but may need to be assigned as the audio connection when DVI input is selected.
You have to at least use the HDMI plug on the PS3, then you either use the cable provided or purchase an HDMI AV cable for the HDTV connections on your TV
HDMI is a common standard so connecting a Bluray player to any HDMI input is likely to work. Computer monitors vary little from their television counterparts but there are one… or two reasons why it might not work. First, computer monitors may not be configured to handle broadcast HD signals. The timing and resolution are not standard computer formats so it is worth checking that the monitor can handle 720p 50Hz / 60Hz and 1080i 50Hz / 60Hz. Almost all should handle these format with ease but do the checking anyway. Second, a copy protection system called HDCP is used on most domestic HD equipment and it encodes signals on HDMI connectors. If the monitor does not support HDCP, there is a good chance that some or all of the output from the Bluray player will not be displayed. Once again, a check of the manual should show if the monitor is HDCP compliant.
take your hdmi cable and plug one end into the hdmi port in the back of the ps3 and the other end into your TV.
yea it works and the graphics are amazing
You don't the laptop HDMI is to connect to a HDTV and so is the PS3 HDMI. Even if you plugged both into the HDTV you would not get a connection between them. The laptop may al…so be able to connect with a camera using the HDMI and it is the PS3 that I based the answer on. I really don't know if you could connect a PS3 to a laptop that was also a media center with TV or HDTV. I do know that the HDMI can not be used to get the PS3 an Online connection and it can only be connected with WiFi or an Ethernet cable
You plug one end of the HDMI cable into the PS3 and the other into the HDTV
The DVI connection doesn't carry any sound, so you will have to run an additional analog or digital cable to carry the audio.
No it is to be connected to a TV, not a computer monitor
Can you use a HDMI to dvi adapter and dvi to vga adapter to connect your ps3 from HDMI to your projector by vga?
No. HDMI to DVI uses a DVI-D or DVI-I connection and is digital, but a DVI to VGA uses a DVI-I or DVI-A and is analog. The best way to connect a PS3 to a projector is to see i…f the projector support component video through the VGA input using a VGA to component pigtail adapter. The projector might have even come with one. You then need to purchase a PS3 component video cable. This will allow resolutions up to 1080i (if your projector support it).
How do you display video on a philips tv using a HDMI to dvi cable that's connected to the pc via a dvi to vga adapter?
You cannot connect a HDMI to a VGA video output on a computer. VGA is an analog signal and the DVI adapter connects it to the analog pins on the DVI cable (a DVI-I cable has b…oth analog and digital pins). A HDMI to DVI cable connects to the cable's digital pins, therefore, no connection is being made. The easiest way to do this is to upgrade your computer's video card to one with a HDMI output. These can be purchased for less than $50.00, and will allow you to connect your computer to your TV with one cable and no adapters.
DVI and HDMI cables are similar and compatible for digital video signals. HDMI also carries audio while DVI does not. If a DVI cable, connector or adapter is used anywhere in …the signal path, the audio signal will be lost. As many computers have a DVI output and most televisions have HDMI inputs, it is common to find at least one HDMI input on a television with a linked analog audio input. It is usually a 3.5mm jack socket near the HDMI connector. To make use of it, the television's menu setting allows either HDMI or analog audio to be selected. Consult your television user manual for full details.
the sound is lost during the conversion... you need to buy additional audio cables
Digital video interface and high definition multimedia interface are two input and output technologies with provide high definition output to HDTV and video displays. You can …connect by adapters, or buy an HDMI to DVI cable.
