Usually with a key from the outside or thumbolt from the inside.
Open the door, next to the door latch is a little slider. You use a key to slide the Child lock in the direction opposite where it is now.
The child safety lock is engaged. Disengage it on the door next to the latch.
Open the door and on the rim, you'll see the switch.
Try by turning your key in the door lock a couple of times, it should turn off.

When you open the doors there is a lever on the door itself that you can switch up or down depending on if you want to engage or disengage the child safety locks. There should be a sticker indicating which way to lock-unlock.

The key for the door must be put in the door and unlock it. On my Lincoln the driver side lock is messed up so i lock the passenger side door and use the key to unlock it and the alarm goes off. If it does not stop disconect the battery.
The dealer can reprogram it for you. Or you can search VAGCOM on Google and find someone local to do it for you.
You disarm the system by unlocking the door. The controller picks up a ground from a device mounted on the end of the lock cylinder.
* To remove the outside door handle and lock assembly raise the window and remove the door trim panel and watershield * Working through the access hole disengage the plastic clips that secure the outside handle to latch actuating rod and the outside door lock to latch actuating rod * Working through the access hole remove the outside door handle retaining bolts * Remove the handle/lock cylinder assembly from the car
