I had a phone do this and believe it or not if yours is having the same problem you can put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes and get about 5 minutes of screen time to recover important messages or contacts. I don't know why but being a computer nerd I figured a deep freeze may help and it did!

∙ 14y agoPress and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously for a least 10 seconds. The screen will clear out and then the Apple Logo will appear on the black background. When the logo appears it means that the reset is done.
This will only work if you have an iPhone 3G though

hold the on/off and home button together for about 10 seconds. It should reboot and yes! If that doesn't work, Turn your iPod off, hold the home button and connect to computer with the computer running iTunes. Then restore!

∙ 13y agoIt could be a software issue or even a manufacturer defect. Call 1-800-APL-CARE and talk to a tech advisor. Be sure to have your serial number ready, which depending on the iPhone you have can be found on the back of your iPhone or on the sim card. They'll let you know if you are in your 90 days of complimentary phone support, if you are they can help you out a lot if not, they'll give you some other offers like the One Time Support Agreement which is around 29 bucks, or the Apple Protection Plan which covers you for 2 years from the date of device purchase, it costs 59 online, but varies typically depending on device and what not. A free option is Apple Support online. I'll give you a link for that.
