You can develop it through a poor self-image or feel the need to express control or negative feeling by controlling whether or not you eat or what it is that you put into your body. The poor self-image is brought on by seeing someone else that is 'prettier' and they percieve it as perfection and strive to achieve that. Other people are absolute control freaks. If someone feels that another is trying to control them too much (Ex// mother constantly criticizes daughter for "not doing things right" and they begin to feel that everything they do is wrong) so they can have control over both themselves and other people, other people in the manner that if no one seems to notice or care or shows indifference to the situation it would probably only escalate to worse types of body mutilation.

Lets get this straight RIGHT NOW.

You can not BECOME anorexic or GET anorexia. It is a MENTAL DISEASE that can KILL PEOPLE.

So if you enjoy mental hospitals, tons of stress, feeding tubes being forced down your throat into your stomach, loss of family and friends, then by-all-means, go have fun BECOMING anorexic.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although you don't "get" anorexia the way you would get a cold, you can "get" it from hearing and seeing the people who are so thin being called beautiful. For most with anorexia or any eating disorders the thoughts and desire to do it has always been present, but the trigger to fully act upon it is usually something like being called fat by one you care about and admire or having a friend or role model who has an eating disorder as well.

Anorexics and all of those with eating disorders should not be avoided or looked at as horrible. They have skewed perceptions of beauty and reality, but they aren't monsters. If you have a friend or family member who has an eating disorder, do not try and avoid them at all costs or look down on them, this will not help them get better. Just try to talk to them, listen to what they have to say, tell them they are beautiful already. It is a mental disorder and professional medical help should be sought after, but it is always improtant to remember that turning your back on these people is not a good idea. The person above is right that some anorexics have to go through all of that, the tubes and mental hospitals, which is all the more reason to realize these people need help and be there for them

When a person doesn't eat enough food they become extremely thin. The person doesn't eat because they think they are over weight & wish to lose weight even if they don't need to. This is similar to bilging when someone eats lots of unhealthy foods or just normal food. But then by putting two fingers in the back of their throat, bring it back up again; because they don't want to put on weight or something like that

*Low self body image

*Bullying, teasing (often about looks or weight)

*"Thin" ideals from society, media

*Aspriing to be just like a role model

it depends upon how food was introduced to you as a baby. if you were overweight as a baby (newborn) then you were most likely to have a fast metabolism as you grew older. most breast-fed babies were introduced as such and had a faster metabolism than those with whom were fed formula and no breast milk. eating disorders come bout during stressful times fr people. how you your parents handled food is how your body from a baby till now learned how to handle food.
