There is no version 2.5 for Windows Movie Maker that I know of. However, you can download version 2.1 from this URL:

You don't need to install ANY codecs for movie maker. What you need to do is convert the media (audio/video) you are trying to import into the program. It is the format of the media that is not compatible with WMM (Windows Movie Maker).
Of course, you can download and install codecs if you wish...But codecs are very risky downloads (usually unsupported by makers as well) that could mess up your system.
I have all three versions of WMM and have never downloaded a codec for any of them. I convert media with a video/audio converter to make them compatible with WMM. These are the only formats compatible with WMM:
Video files: .asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv
Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wma
Free converters are available online. Simply Google: Free audio/video converters. Once you have a converter downloaded, locate the media files that need converting and follow the instructions. Make sure your 'output source' is one of the file name extensions (formats) listed above.
If your media conversion is successful, you will be able to import them into Windows Movie Maker.... WITHOUT HAVING TO DOWNLOAD ANY CODECS whatsoever.
I've posted a URL to the video/audio converters I use below for you. But, whatever converter you choose will work. Just watch out for trial offers that expire after a certain period of time. The Koyote Soft converter does not expire and is very easy to use:

If you have a computer running Windows ME,you can copy the Movie Maker 1.0 files onto any other computer. But Windows Movie Maker 1 has limited functions. And it does not work even on Windows XP as it is only for Windows ME. Although it does work on Windows 2000.

You can change the Default Durations by:> Click on Tools. Options, Advanced tab> Beside Picture/Transition Default Duration, use the arrow key for adjusting time> Lowest setting is 0.125 (Picture Duration)> Lowest setting is .25 (Transition Duration)
The download time for a movie from iTunes will depend upon the length of the movie, if it is an HD movie, and the speed of the downloading connection. For example a 2 hour movie will take about 25 minutes to download with a 5 MB broadband connection, but will take around an hour if it is in HD. Over a 1 MB connection it will take at least an hour and the HD version can take around 4 hours. Movies can be watched while they are being downloaded.
