Diethyl ether can be formed from alcohol by intermolecular dehydration of alcohols.
When alcohol is heated with conc. H2SO4 at 140*C, diethyl ether is obtained.
CH3CH2OH + H2SO4 -----------> CH3CH2OCH2CH3 ( diethyl ether)
It must be noted that at high temp (180*C) the reaction is elimination which form alkene.

∙ 10y agoYep. At least in the USA. I've seen it sold in aresol cans as a starting fluid to assist the starting of carburettor engines. I've also seen it sold as a spray for killing wasps nests. I can't comment on the purity though.

What is ether weight?
"Ether-weight," or perhaps "Aether-weight" is a fictional, extremely light wrestling weight class referenced in the third episode of the 21st season of "The Simpsons." Why does the water freeze when a beaker of ether is placed over the water?
Because ether is much more volatile than water and evaporates extremely quickly. As ether evaporates very quickly its average kinetic energy is lowered as molecules of ether escape. Following on, the 2nd law of Thermodynamics (I think) states that thermal energy is lost to cooler things so the water cools down extremely quickly as it looses heat to the evaporating ether which is also loosing heat in evaporation. Once the water reaches 0 degrees C it freezes.

Don't do that. This product contains sodium hydroxide (lye) and glycol ether, and glycol ether is combustible. Mixing lye and sulfuric acid produces an exothermic reaction - which is probably hot enough to ignite the glycol ether. And it would throw stuff all over the place. Result - flaming solvent dispersed wildly.
