There is one main problem with emancipated minor laws. I know this from the heart, by the way, emancipated minor status is something I once desperately wished to achieve--and did. The biggest problem with United States emancipation laws is that virtually all of them require written consent of at least one parent.

If you can get that, you are home free. Or "Do not pass Go, Get out of Home Free." But that is so very hard to get. Usually, I would think, if one can get one's parents consent to emancipate him or her, one would not need that consent in the first place. The parents are either too nice or do not care enough about the child's presence in the home to worry whether or not the child is there.

You can sometimes get around the parental consent business by marriage, which is what I did, and also what was done by my ex-husband. As I have said before, the "ex" in front of the word "husband" says more than I can say in many words here. None of this was a good idea for either of us--and we came from houses where, at least in part, one might suspect it would be. My best advice is to be careful.

A:By turning 18, get married, join the military or get emancipation by the court. A:Marry a cousband, brosband or bruncle.
