Difficultly. There are several ways to go about the process.
Once you have your manuscript, or other writing, edited to perfection, or to your liking, it may be best to have peers review your writing. Do keep in mind that even if they don't like it, it may be just because they like to read a different genre. If they have any criticism, try to use it to make your writing better--most critiques can be very helpful.
If you have already had peers check through your work and you are ready to take on the publishing process, there are several things you can do: look for writing contests, find an agent, self-publish your work, find a publisher.
To enter a writing contest, there are a few magazines or newspapers that have them. This seems to be easier for poetry and short stories since they can fit into a magazine or a newspaper. However there are contests out there for entire manuscripts. When looking on the internet for a contest, make sure that when you are entering personal information the URL reads "https".The "s" means it's secure.
If you decide to look for an agent, remember that finding publishers for people is their (probably only) job. In which case they are most likely already trying to get other people's writing published while you are sending them your query letter. (A query letter is like the summary on the back of the book that gets the reader interested in reading it.) So, there are a couple reasons for a rejection: they may not have time to find a publisher for another book, they may not be interested in working with your genre of writing (this, I suppose, could happen if they already know some publishers who work with certain genres), or they may think something else that every writer would hope isn't the case . . . But if an agent agrees to help you find a publisher, then that means they think you CAN get published. Unfortunately, it may be just as hard, if not harder, to find an agent as it is to find a publisher.
Self-publishing is a process that usually requires you to spend money before the production of your book. This leaves open another opportunity for scammers--so be careful. Please remember the "https" when entering your personal information. The internet is, most unfortunately, the most common way to go for self-publishing.
When looking for a publisher, you can go to your library to find listings of publishers IN PRINT! This will help to prevent any scams. If you are looking online, always remember the "https". You can also ask friends an family if they know anyone who's been published. Although a published author can't really help you, they can give you advice, and that alone is really good.
If little or none of this information was useful to you, or for further information, you can always find advice from published writers on the internet and on YouTube. You can try picking up your favorite book and seeing if the author has a website. This is something that you will want to do a lot of research on. Always make sure that you're not falling into a scam.
