Castration of a rooster is called caponization and should only be done by an experienced person or veterinarian. It is also illegal in some places. The rooster is usually given antibiotics and taken off food and water prior to the procedure. A small slit is made two lowest ribs, and the testicles removed and cut so no tissue remains in the body cavity. The slit is allowed to heal without closures. Many roosters die during or after the procedure, especially if it is not done properly or in unsanitary conditions.

Yes, the reason being that castrated roosters(capons)taste better because they store a lot of fat. Although it is now illegal to castrate a rooster in most parts of the including the U.S. and Europe

You will have to declaw your rooster especially if you have kids staying at home. A rooster can be easily declawed by using a nail filer, or taking it to your local vet and having it declawed by using special razor cutters.
