The obvious answer is insect spray. But a kinder, safer way to rid your property of them and do a good deed is, call a beekeeper. Which believe it or not, are listed in most phone directories. If not, you can call the local health department and ask for assistance. The trick is to find the queen bee and all the drones will follow along right into a box, and off they go. Good Luck!

I'M NOT CERTAIN THIS WILL WORK BUT IVE SEEN ON TELEVISON WHERE SMOKE WAS USED TO GET RID OF BEES

Smoke stuns and slows them down while the person takes their honeycombs. It does not kill them. They recover quickly and go on with their work none the worse for wear.

The best bet is to call an exterminator and have them do the removal for you....unless of course the bees are not bothering you. If they are leaving you alone then i would say "live and let live".

  • Honeybees: it would be a shame to destroy them if you didn't have another choice. Start by contacting a beekeeper. You can find one in your area by doing a Google search. To remove the hive, you start by immobilizing the bees on a cool day. If you have no choice but to kill them, there are numerous aerosol products to choose from. It should go without saying--if you kill the bees with insecticide, avoid eating the honey. Once the bees are immobilized or dead, removing the nest is as easy as opening up the wall or cavity and scraping the honeycomb loose.
  • Bumblebees: The nests are typically built in underground cavities. If you want to try exterminating them yourself, buy a can of expanding polyurethane foam and foam the cavity. It will take a lot of foam to do this. Don't just plug the opening because the bees will chew through and they do seem to carry a grudge. Be certain that you have identified all of the entrances to the nest because if you didn't, the bees will let you know. My recommendation is that you try for some form of peaceful coexistance or call a professional exterminator.

NOTE: Avoid using gasoline to kill bees. While gasoline will kill the bees that it covers, you can't cover them all by pouring it into the nest. Before long (especially if beer is involved) somebody will think it might be a good idea to light the gasoline. What generally happens next is that large winged firebombs will come pouring out of the nest looking for somebody to sting.

  • Carpenter bees: Take an unsharpened pencil and steel wool. Jam the steel wool into the hole and plug it with the pencil. Break the pencil off and sand or shave flush with the surrounding wood. A dowel rod works better than a pencil so, if you want a good finish, make a trip to the hardware store. Bees in an area seem to make identically-sized round holes in the wood so once you find the right diameter dowel, hold onto what you don't use because they'll be back (unless you trap them in the holes). The steel wool is important...they cannot chew through it.
ANS2:Another good way to get rid of them is to boil some hot water and add some bicarbonate of soda into the water leave for about 2 minutes then pour in where the bees are. What this does is the bicarbonate of soda raises in the warm water and creates a layer of foam that will last about 2-4hours. Trapping the bees/wasps inside. The warm water kills them off and drowns them.

Unless they are a particularly dangerous bee, why get rid of them? They do no harm but do do a lot of good and left unmolested they are extremely unlikely to sting. If they did sting, a single sting is hardly painful to most adults. If you must get rid of them, there are special insecticide powders that can be placed in the entrance to the nest although a standard garden puffer pack insecticide, such as primiphos methyl, should also work.

If they are honey bees then it should not be difficult to find the nest in Spring or Summer. Rather than just looking, listen carefully for their buzzing. A beekeeper will almost certainly be able to find honey bees if you cannot.

If they are not honey bees then there may be no nest since a lot of bees are what are known as solitary bees. Why would you want to get rid of them in this case - there will just be the odd bee around now and then.

If you have a serious concern about bees in your garden then you may have to face up to changing the plants that you grow. Bees will visit plants that offer them a good source of pollen or nectar - they could have travelled from a nest or hive that is a couple of miles away.
