This all begins with a story of mathematicians who were arguing about the division of the circle. At first, one said we should split circles in percentiles, whilst another said in quartiles. These were rejected. What happened was that one decided to measure the radius of a circle, for example it was 6 units. So, he started to measure the perimeter of the circle (circumference) and marked a segment whenever the value of the radius was found. after measuring the entire circle, he noticed that there were 6 segments, and a part of a segment. So he tried again with different radii and there were always 6 segments and a bit. So, this 6 and a bit was divided by 2, to yield "3 and a bit" which is what we call pi. So, as you've noticed, the formula for circumference is: the radius multiplied by 2 times pi, which is the correct formula! An alternative way would be to find the value of the constant that the radius is multiplied by to get the circumference as they are directly proportional, so a constant must exist, which you will find to be 2 x pi.

To get the CIRCUMFERENCE you multiply the diameter times pi. (Which is 3. 14)

Where does the circumference of a circle come from?

pi = Cirumference C divided by diameter d. The circumference is the distance around a closed curve. Circumference is a kind of perimeter. Circumference of a circleThe circumference of a circle can be calculated from its diameter using the formula:C = pi times dOr, substituting the diameter for the radius:C = pi times 2 rwhere r is the radius and d is the diameter of the circle, and pi is defined as the ratio of the circumference of the circle to its diameter. The numerical value of pi is 3.141 592 653 589 793...
