You make friends then go to your town gates and talk to the dog on the right click go out and wi fi or ds to ds and then you pick a friend and click visit town then you can visit your friends towns and they can come to yours too just use friend codes but I don't know how to get one.

In City Folk/Let's Go To The City, Main Street is accessed by visiting the bus stop and boarding a bus.

The key difference is that you're mayor in New Leaf, whereas you were only a town resident in City Folk. Additionally, the City has been replaced with Main Street, a small store segment found north of your town, beyond the railway crossing.
