I am not sure why you would want to stop giving your cat wet cat food. In comparison to dry food, wet food is far more beneficial to a cat.
Domestic cats aren't all that different from cats in the wild such as lions. Pet cats, like their wild cousins, get all their nutrition from meat-based proteins and fats. A pet cat that has access to outside might hunt and eat small birds, mice, voles and other small wildlife animals. Some owners feed their cats raw meat, offal (organs) and bone to mimic the food a cat would eat in the wild. Good quality wet foods often have a very high meat content with all the essential nutrients.
It is advisable to stay away from brands that include Corn, Wheat, Cereals, Soy and various Sugars in their foods - cats have difficulty in digesting these and do not provide any nutritional value to the cat whatsoever. Wet food with these specifications are much easier to find than in dry food.
The amount of moisture in cat food is also very important. Dry food contains no moisture, so is quite dehydrating. Cats are notoriously bad drinkers, even when they are thirsty. This is because they have evolved to get all their needed moisture from their prey (their ancestors were cats that lived in very dry and arid environments where water was hard to come by), so therefore have a low "thirst drive" and will not often seek out water on their own. This is a trait that has been passed down over the thousands of years.
Canned or pouched food has anywhere between 60 to 80% water. Seeing as in the wild a cat's prey is around 65%-75% water, wet and raw food provides a cat with more than enough water each day. Dry foods in comparison have 0% - 10% moisture. Even with drinking, a cat on a dry food diet often does not drink enough.
Many dry foods and low-quality wet foods are often packed with carbohydrates - "filler" in the way of grains and cereals, none of which cats can digest or gain any nutrients from. Grain is used instead of meat because it is cheaper to produce and helps kibble pieces hold together. Cats need MEAT based protein, not PLANT based protein. Cats will often overeat on lower quality foods because they are not getting all the nutrients they need, which often results in obesity.
However, there are some good dry food brands out there. The healthiest (and possibly the best-tasting) dry cat foods are the ones completely free of grain, corn and other cereals and have named meat content (labelled as Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, Lamb, Tuna, etc.) as the first ingredient, or even better, the first three. Many higher quality brands use small amounts of rice or potatoes in place of the cereals, while still not wholly ideal, it is much better and easier on a cat's digestive system.
My cats eat canned food(wet food) and dry food(kind of like kibbles).
The most commonly recommended dog food brands, by veterinarians, include: Royal Canin, Science Diet, and Purina Pro Plan. Here are a few wet dog food options for puppies, adult dogs, and senior dogs: Puppy: Royal Canin puppy canned dog food. Adult: Hill's Science Diet Adult beef & barley entrée canned dog food.
I feed my cat with WHISKAS Jelly Canned food 3 times a day. She loves it. Since it is important to provide proper nutrition and dehydrate cats so I prefer jelly or wet food for my cat. She loves eating but hates to drink anything. I think it's in their genes.
Canned or pouched food has anywhere between 60 to 80% water, which closely mimics how much water a cat would get in the wild . In the wild, a cat's prey is around 65%-75% water, wet food provides a cat with more than enough water each day.
Most people think the canned cat food is higher in calories than the dry cat food, which is incorrect. The dry cat food is far higher in calories. The canned cat food has lots of water in it. Read the labels on both types for moisture content. You need to feed a good name brand cat food, not some cheap generic brand you find in grocery stores. For the amount to feed your cat is difficult to answer without seeing your cat in person. Is your cat fat or thin? How active is it? Never free feed your cat by keeping food down in front of it all day long. Feed twice a day. Put down only the amount that your cat will clean up in approx. 10-15 minutes. After that time, pick up any left over cat food. You could also mix a little canned food in with the basic dry food. Keep an eye on the cat's weight.
A dog's food preferences depends on the dog, not the breed. My yorkie loved wet (canned) food, but yours might not.
There's no reason for you to give wet food to your cat to assist in defecation - the wet food has less bulk so your cat will likely defecate less.
Put dry cat food in a bowl and let them eat. They will not overeat. Then, around 6:00 or so, put wet (canned) cat food out. Change or refill the bowl with food about twice a week. You can trust me. I've been a cat owner for 9 proud years.
You can feed your cat wet food as often as you like, whenever you like. There is no set rule when to feed a cat, although most feed their cat twice a day. I personally feed my cat wet (pouched) food in the morning and in the evening.
Wet cat food makes little difference; by the second day it will be dried out and unappealing to the cat. A cat should be fine for two to three days with dry food and clean water.
if it isn't washed or sometimes the food that it is eating for example if your cat is on wet wood i could be giving the cat a bad smell :)
feed a cat dry food, preferably IAMS. wet food its possibly the worst thing you can do to your cat!
