How do you get your girlfriend to understand that she is more important to you then your ex wife and that you don't bend over backwards for your ex wife?

Consider that the most powerful way to help your girlfriend understand she is more important to you than your ex wife is with your ACTIONS. You can verbally tell your girlfriend until you are blue in the face, but if you don't show her by what you do your words are meaningless.

Do you have children with your ex wife? If not, you shouldn't have any kind of contact with her what so ever and don't say BS like oh we are just friends. The truth is you can NEVER be friends with an ex. If you do have children with her then you do need to be on amicable terms, but only be in contact with your ex when is in regards to your children that is it nothing more.

You will also need to explain this to your girlfriend that your children come first (if she really love you she will understand) and that unfortunately that is why you are in contact with your ex only at times on for your children's sake (because they should, as you have found out relationships come an go, but your children are your flesh and blood and they will be with you or around you for your whole life no matter what their connection should be one of the strongest you ever experience in life) and your girlfriend needs to understand this and be mature about it and if she doesn't than she's not she needs to work on her insecurities, but if she can not deal with it then you might want to consider on whether or not your girlfriend is the right person for you...
