im not sure if you mean to keep it alive, as a houseplant. i don't know how to keep it alive outdoors or to grow it from the beginning, but if you take care of it properly inside it can grow pretty quickly and noticeably.
it needs to be in a sunny location, it will be perfectly fine on a windowsill. like any plant, you don't want it near a vent because the change in temperature would be bad for it. you want to keep water on the roots at all times. the roots do not always need to be entirely submerged, though they can be. if it looks yellowish, it most likely needs a larger container because the roots do take up a lot of space.
just don't keep the water level too high, keep it as high as you can without being higher than the roots as it could cause mold/decaying of the plant.
that's about it, I've kept mine for over a year and i keep needing larger containers. no special food is necessary.
To grow healthy, flourishing bamboo, you must keep it well watered. Although you may think water is water, bamboo may not react well (die) if your water is too high in salt; as in "softend" water. Natural water, like bottled, would be ideal for your bamboo. Also, you should change the water in the pot regularly for maximum health of your plant. Another good tip to keep your bamboo as healthy as possible, a very small dose of a mild fertalizer can keep your plant healthy and green. Do not over-fertalize your bamboo. The water may become too acidic and your plant will die. I hope this will help you keep your lucky bamboo alive and well!

Yes you can, bamboo is a plant so, it relates to a tree. Technically it is a tree, it is also what pandas eat. If pandas eat bamboo, us humans can eat bamboo too since we are the strongest in the food chain.
