How do you hail a cab in mafia 2?

Niko has to whistle to hail a cab, it is L1 on the PS3. When the cab pulls up (sometimes further up the road), Niko will be prompted to get in by holding triangle. If you just tap triangle, he will jack the cab, so you need to hold the button down to get him in as a passenger.

A taxi can be hailed when on foot by holding triangle then entering the shevrons. You cannot hail a taxi if someone is inside the taxi and cannot be hailed with a wanted level.

press l1 and the taxi will stop somewhere,but if someone is in the taxi already and then press l1,then the taxi would not stop.
