Follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine. There will be a outlet mount there that the hose connects too. There are two bolts on each side you must remove, it may also have a bracket mounted to it as well that will need to be removed. lift the outlet off the engine and you will see the thermostat. lift the thermostat out clean the mating surfaces, install new thermostat ( make sure it is in the grove flat )and gasket, remount outlet housing. Put the rest back together.
The thermostat on a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 liter 4 cylinder is located on the side of the engine. It can be found by following the upper radiator hose.

On a 1990-91 it is behind the housing the upper hose attaches to ON A 1.6 LITER
IT'S IN THE HOUSING BEHIND THE TIMING COVER THAT THE UPPER RAD HOSE CONNECTS TO.
Drain the radiator. Remove the top radiator hose and water inlet. Remove the thermostat from under the inlet. Install the new thermostat, reinstall the inlet and hose, and fill the system with new freon.
Is it at the end of the top radiator hose at the engine?
