put on top dead center on number 1 cylinder(driver side front)and slip dist in hole slowly turning at bottom until it seats all the way down.Make sure rotor is pointing at number 1 not 6 plugwire, if it is raise up a couple inches and turn rotor 180 degrees and set again.very simple to do.

rev the engine to about 2500 rpm's and turn the distributor until you find that sweet spot.
It should be in the back of the engine, just to the drivers side of the distributor.
305 is the same distributor as a 350 will even fit some big block chevy's.
maybe check for a worn CAM LOB.

Put the serpentine belt on to the pulleys of your 1994 Chevy engine. Tighten a serpentine belt with the tensioner pulley.
The only one I can think of is the exhaust Y-pipe may not fit from the 305 to the 350.
