If you actually want to talk, find something you are both interested in, like movies, bands or such. It has to be something you can both talk about, or something he's interested in that you can keep asking him about.
If you only want to keep him chatting play a game. That could be playing around with the /me command (third person talk, like *grabs a water gun and pumps*), or an actual game. My girlfriend kept me talking until I fell for her with the "what would you do if" game ;) You simply take turns in asking "what would you do if" ... something happened, such as "wwydi we were in the bedroom and I started throwing pillows at you". You can play that funny with strange questions or of course you can go romantic or dirty ;)
