How do you know if someone has answered your question on WikiAnswers?

The best thing for signed-in users is to make sure to add your question to your Watchlist by clicking on "Get Updates." Then you can go to My Watchlist any time and easily find the question. In your settings (link in the left panel) you can also elect to receive e-mail updates when it is answered.
You can use the blue search area (not green) and put keywords in, or you can try other search functions from the search button at the top of the screen.
Be patient; don't give up. It is possible that your question was edited for spelling or clarity, so you might have to be paying attention to recognize the question you asked or just check back now and then.
Questions are answered on a volunteer basis. Your question may get answered very quickly, or it may take several weeks, or it may never get answered at all.
Some guidelines you can follow to make your question more likely to be answered:
1. Phrase your question properly. It should be a real question, not just an inquiry.
The phrasing "Advantages of notebooks?" doesn't stand a chance, whereas "What are the advantages of notebook computers?" may just get answered.
2. Don't post questions which are obviously test questions. We're not here to do your homework for you. I always avoid answering questions which sound like test questions.
3. Be specific. Okay, your space is limited, so you do have to be brief, but something like "Why wont my computer connect?" is doomed, even if it does get an answer, it may not get a useful one.... "Why doesn't my 56k HSP modem get a dialtone anymore?" is infinitely more useful.

If you mean on WikiAnswers, no, they are not an answer on WikiAnswers. If a person has absolutely no information to put in an answer, they should go to another question that they can answer or at least partially answer. Answering a question even with "I don't know" makes that question appear to be answered on WikiAnswers, which means it is less likely to BE answered, because people will think it already has been.
If WikiAnswers doesn't know the answer why do you have the question posted?
Because you can't answer a question that has never been asked. Ideally, there there should only be two kinds of questions on WikiAnswers - those that have been answered, and those that will be answered. When a contributor comes across a question that hasn't been answered, and they know (or think they know) the answer, they will put it in. That is how the collection of questions and answers grows.

The only sensible answer is "I don't know". If the question is here on WikiAnswers and you don't know the answer, just ignore it, do nothing with it, and go on to another question. Someone else will come along who know the answer, and will post it. If you open the question and write "I don't know" in the space where the answer is supposed to appear, then "I don't know" is taken to be the answer, the question falls out of the list of questions, and it never does get answered.

Why is WikiAnswers so slow?
Sorry, Wiki depends on people who are volunteering their time to answer all these questions. If there is someone on Wiki that has knowledge about your question, then it will get answered. If not it may take a while for someone to read and answer your question. The people that answer the questions are people just like you. They have signed on and see a question that they know something about.
