Unfortunately, leaving old oil in a stale engine can lead to some very serious engine damage due to the corrosive materials that are suspended in used engine oil, especially if the engine will not even be started for an entire season.

Finally, it is always a good idea to make sure that the carburetor of the ATV is completely empty of fuel. Most owners who are not experienced mechanics might be uncomfortable with draining the fuel tank on their own. Simply cutting off the fuel valve is typically good enough make sure that your engine’s carburetor is ready for winter storage.
