Remembering a loved one that has passed is wonderful. But it has become a popular belief that the dead can return and communicate with the living. This is not true. The Bible leaves no room for speculation on this subject. Heaven or hell, those are the only two places that human souls reside after this life on earth is over.

Scripture tells us to be very careful not to believe the lies of Satan and his demons. Satan can, and does, perform miracles, such as appearing as a ghost, to mislead humans and mess with their heads. Before his fall from grace Lucifer was a very powerful and high-up angel. He still possesses much power and he is an expert at deception, especially with human beings.

What better way to draw humans away from God and His word, the bible, than to give the impression of human spirits roaming around terrorizing or helping those that are alive. If you think you are seeing your dead granny, guess again. Satan can become any shape he wants, with knowledge of the details of human lives, past and present.

In short, it appears that you may see them and they may speak to you. Only you can justify whether or not it's real. Just be aware that there has never been any quantitative evidence that ghosts or spirits exist.

That being said, you should shun any contact or feeling that you might have from someone who has departed. The vast majority of these are demons trying to lead people astray. Based upon the Bible there were a couple of ways that spirits let themselves be known to the living. One way was through dreams, the other was through possession of another living thing, and finally via seance (which is considered undesirable by God). In terms of modern ways that people have reported, some of the more popular methods are via sound, video, and Ouija board. None of which have produced anything substantial. In terms of the best way, dreams appear to be the defacto standard.

It's comforting to believe that those of our loved ones who have already deceased are in a more pleasant place and may be able to visit us in this life. The reality is that there is not even a scintilla of evidence that there really is an afterlife or that spirits exist, so there is no reason ever to expect to be able to know that the spirit of a loved one is with you. You may feel their presence, but this is something our mind does to us, not a departed spirit.
