In Joomla 1.0.x, let's say you want to create a link to an installed component in the main menu:
- Log into the admin area
- Click on Menu -> mainmenu
- Click the New button on the far right
- On the New Menu Item screen, click on Component.
- On the Add Menu Item :: Component screen, give the menu item a name, select the component to link to
- Click Save and you are done
In Joomla 1.5.x, you do the following for a new link to a component on the main menu:
- Log into the admin area
- Click on Menu -> mainmenu
- Click the New button on the far right
- The installed components should be listed automatically under Internal Links, click on the component you wish to link to
- Give the new menu item a title, alias (optional), and set any parameters you may need
- Click Save and you are done
