There should be a place on the tensioner to insert a ratchet wrench or breaker bar without a socket or a "nut" for a socket to fit. Turn the tensioner clockwise or counterclockwise to loosen the tension (some tensioners rotate clockwise and some counterclockwise) and remove the old serpentine belt - NOTE: be sure and note how the belt is routed so you can install the new one in the same routing.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. The serpentine belt will become loose and can be removed. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.

buy a belt, loosen the tensioner, replace belt
You pry it over enough to remove the belt. You loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and thread the adjuster bolt backwards on a 4.0L.
Loosen the tensioner (It's the only pulley out of 7 that is not attached to a unit) by using a 15MM wrench, then loosen the tensioner screw on the upper left of the tensioner bracket (15MM as well), until you can remove the old belt, replace w/new belt and tighten screw then center tensioner bolt. Be careful of ADVANCE AUTO PARTS.....They like to give you the wrong belt. A good belt to use is the DRIVE RITE serpentine belt (Part No. 950K6), assuming you have a 4.0Ltr engine. Hope this helps!
Replace the tensioner pulley
Place a breaker bar on the lug/hole on the tensioner; then pry against the tensioner.
There should be a small square hole near the tensioner pully. A 3/8 socket driver will fit in the hole and then you can losen the tensioner.
loosen the tensioner bracket, remove old belt. replace with new belt. tighten with tensioner. job complete!
