If Pages doesnt open it then you will have to download a free (or paid) third party application like, OpenOfficeOrg, NeoOffice, LibreOffice, Bean, etc, in order to open a Word file. You might have to download a few of them depending on how elaborate the file is on how well they can open them. Or you can just purchase "Office for Mac" and not worry about it.
