A patent is obtained by filing an appropriate application with your national patent office (USPTO in the USA), having it examined, and having the patent issued.

Under various treaties, the application and examination can be extended to other countries, for a fee (and within certain time limits), but you still need to conform to specific requirements in each jurisdiction to have a patent issued there (e.g., translation, fees, local agent, etc).

First you must light the candle created from the wax of a demon. Then you recite the ancient summoning call. It can't be written down so I'll write it backwards, "Obba dooba woooba scooba flooba ooz" You will then be confronted by the legendary patent king who will grant you three patents but you must in return give him your SOUL!

You write a patent application, submit it with fees, deal with the various rejections and objections during examination of your application, pay the issuance fees and then you get a patent.

Go to your local patent office and obtain the required documents. A rapid prototype is often a big help in backing up your patent. A rapid prototype can also help potential patent right buyers see/feel your product and really understand what it is to do. Prototypes can also be used for advertising and commercials before the actual product is in production. Prototypes also help find designs issues that can be fixed before money is invested into the short/long run production.

You have to apply for a patent with the US Patent Office. However you should be aware that you have to pay a fee beginning at 675$. More information can be found here http://www.uspto.gov/patents/resources/types/provapp.jsp.

Patents are issued through the United States Patent Office. Your invention must be original, must be documented, and must be a process/device not an idea. If approved, you will have 20 years of exclusive use of the patent.

You must submit your invention to the United State Patent Office. It can be costly to have a patent approved and set in motion. Filing fees alone cost between $190-$400. If a patent reaches a national level, then the charges extend further. Make sure you are financially ready to invest in your own invention before setting out.
