Having a right relationship with God is the best way to prepare for the tribulation. A person can put their relationship right with God by accepting that Jesus died as a sacrifice for sin "and whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life".
There is no need to prepare. The Rapture is a theological invention of John Nelson Darby, the nineteenth-century founder of the Plymouth Brethren. He asserted that Christians would suddenly be whisked bodily up to heaven, leaving the non-believers behind in the Tribulation. According to Darby's original scheme, Christians would not experience the Tribulation, as they would have been whisked bodily up to heaven, leaving only the non-believers behind in the Tribulation.
However, later proponents of his theology found what they felt were flaws in his scheme, and some opted for a post-tribulation scenario, while others opted for a mid-tribulation scenario. It is in these newer scenarios that Christians might face at least part of the Tribulation that Darby had described back in 1830. Of course, even if these events do occur one day, they would only affect a tiny proportion of Christians since nearly all the Christians who have ever lived and nearly all non-Christians would have quietly lived their lives and passed away in the fullness of time, oblivious to any Tribulation.
