The normal way is to open the prime valve, start the machine in paint or water, then close the prime valve once the fluid starts flowing through the prime line.

If the machine will not prime, tap the piston with a hammer to loosen the check balls. If it is a diaphragm type machine, remove the intake hose and shove a pencil, eraser first, in to the inlet to free the ball or valve.

If the prime valve is broken, you can prime the machine by starting the machine in water, trigger the gun and hope that it pushes the liquid to the gun. Once it starts pushing water through, switch to paint which will push all the water out.

Most airless sprayers have a prime valve that will allow the material being sprayed to recirculate back into the material bucket. Once that material is flowing freely, close the valve and the pump is primed. If the valve is broken or removed, replace the valve before attempting to use the pump. If you need to clean out the machine, remove the gun and allow the paint to flow through the hose into the material bucket.

Spray tips for an airless sprayer are usually fixed orifice tips that are sized to allow for material flow and fan width. The most basic are flat tips that are held on by a guard and often need to be removed and cleaned if they become too clogged to clear out on the gun. The most popular are reversible tips that will rotate 180 degrees to allow the operator to easily clear out any clogs.

Tips are sized by fan size and orifice size and are indicated by a three or four digit number. The first digit is half the fan size in inches, the last two are the orifice size. In a four digit number, the first two are half the fan size.

315 = 6" fan with a .015 orifice

1231= 24" fan with a .031 orifice.

The orifice size determines how much material will flow through a machine. A new .015 orifice will allow about a quart to flow per minute, while a .031 will allow about a gallon of material to flow per minute. Tips are matched to both the job and the machine that is being used. As they wear, their fans get smaller and wider and more material passes through resulting in waste.

Can you spray driveway cleaner with your airless?

You can, but airless sprayers are not designed to broadcast material, rather to apply material in a specific area. Depending on the capacity of the airless sprayer and the tip used, you'll only apply as little as a quart per minute onto the surface. Better alternatives would be a pressure washer using the fluid injector or a pump-up garden sprayer.

How the paint sprayer work?

It is a pump. An airless sprayer takes the paint and compresses it (or tries to compress it) so that it comes out of the spray tip at a very high pressure. There are a couple different types. One is a diaphragm type, the other is a piston type. A C.A.P. or HVLP sprayer are different than the airless. They use air pressure to pull the paint out of a receptacle and atomize or disperse the paint with the air.

Using a Wagner piston pump sprayer and getting an uneven finish or paint buildup on new drywall Any suggestions on how to avoid this would be helpful?

Airless spray painters are notorious for uneven spray and should never be used without having someone follow with a roller. The roller evens out the spray pattern and prevents runs and bare spots. Professional painters either have a helper follow or spray a room then "chase" it themselves. If the problem is severe, check the spray tip. If it becomes blocked with a small obstruction, the "fan" will degrade. Always run paint through a strainer before using it in an airless sprayer.

Where can one purchase an airless sprayer?
