This can be simple or very complex. First off, why is the horse underweight? There are many factors that can cause weight loss. Before you do anything, have a vet check your horse to make sure there are no health issues that need to be addressed. It could be parasites, bad teeth, or infection to name a few. Once it has been established that your horse is in good health and is not in pain you can move on to other possiblities. Some horses, just like people, can eat large amounts of food and not gain weight. Discuss with your vet what feeding program the horse is on and what changes can be made to his diet to increase his weight. There are supplements that can help maintain body weight and there are some that can help his appetite to encourage him to eat more. Make sure he is not lacking some essential vitamin or mineral that could be keeping his weight down. A good way to put weight on a horse without making him too 'hot' is beet pulp. It can be fed wet or dry and it doesn't add to much protein to his diet. And a good equine senior feed is a very good way to pick up a horse's weight. If you plan to change your horse's diet do so gradually. Horses are very sensitive to change. Do this slowly, over a period of weeks or a couple of months if the change is drastic. And last of all, examine the horse's immediate environment. If he is being chased off his feed by a more dominant pasture mate, or being bullied by another horse it may be best to separate them.

Well so long as she doesn't have any dental or health issues. Try adding more hay first, if that doesn't work add some alfalfa in either hay or pellet form. Again if this doesn't work try adding some corn oil up to 2 cups a day drizzled over her ration, but start at only 1/4 cup and build up from there. If she's still too thin then you might try adding a commercial weight builder to her ration.
