Probably the wrong size flange. Is the flange a toilet collar? If so the pipe is probably 4 inch.

get an "ID" (that is Inside Diameter) pipe wrench. they are available at most good hardware stores. this will allow you to turn the flange from the inside.

How do you remove the broken closet flange from a cast iron drain pipe?

I removed the broken flange by perforating the lead filling between the drain pipe and the flange - i.e., drilling holes every 1/4-1/2 inch or so with a regular drill and then sawing through the filling with a power saber saw. Then pried the flange off with a pry bar. Wasn't as bad as I expected. - Dan

Can you remove a toilet and floor over drain?

The toilet flange is usually above the floor level. You would have to cut it off the drain pipe and cap it. How you do this depends on what type of pipe the drain is made of. Even if the drain should be below the floor level, you have to seal the drain or sewer gas will come up from the drain.

What if a toilet flange will not fit in the drain pipe?

When installing a closet flange to a drain pipe in a concrete floor is there any problem with filling gap around pipe with cement and bolting brass flange to cement rather than attaching to drain pipe?

The bolts that come from the drain and run to to toilet help to alaign proper drainage and seal the toilet. You do not want to do the bolts set in cement idea...

How do you solder a closet flange to a lead drain pipe?

I would take out the lead bend and replace it with pvc.

Should you glue your toilet closet flange to your pipe?

No, it is not recommended to glue the toilet closet flange to the pipe. The flange should be secured to the floor using bolts or screws, and the toilet is then secured to the flange using wax rings or sealing gaskets. Gluing the flange to the pipe can make it difficult to remove or replace the toilet in the future.
