I have a 1992 and would think they would be close to the same. Here is what I remember.
First I had to remove the trim from around the dash. I took a small flat head screw driver to carefull pry it up. It will most likely have plastic prongs going from the trim into the dash. Becareful and also look around the dashboard up close to the speedometer area once you take the outer trim loose. There should be about 5 to 6 screws holding the panel in place. Remove the screws from this piece which should have been revealed after you removed the outer trim. From there I believe you should be able to see the cavity that the radio sets in. There will be two screws or bolts opposite each other that hold the radio in place. Take them out the radio will slide right out of the dash.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO D IS REMOVE WITH A SCREW DRIVER THE LITTLE COVER BETWEN THE SWITCHES FRO THE EMERGENCY LIGTHS AND THE DEFROSTER UNDER THIS COVER IS A LITTLE SCREW REMOVETHAT SCREW AND JUS PULL THE TRIM THEN YOU JUST HAVE TO REMOVE THE SCREWS THAT ARE HOLDING THE STEREO IS REALLY SIMPLE
You must first remove the wood grain that hides all the screws, use a screw driver or puddy knife to do that. Then remove all of the screws related. It's about 14 (+/-). You'll need a Phillips and a 10mm socket. Alot of the front dash will come off but you are doing it correctly. Then disconnect the wiring harness. Good luck.
Remove the top vent cover that stretches from one end of the dash to the other above the defrost vents. It just pries off. Then remove the ashtray by pulling it out. Remove the screw behind the ashtray and the two upper screws, then pull the pry the bottom of the center bezel away from its clips and remove it. In my Wrangler there was a bar that was attached to the back of the stereo and to two bolts on the inside upper part of the dash. I used a 10mm socket with extension to remove the two bolts up above and then fought the thing out with the bar on the back. Then just undo the wiring clips.

To remove a stock stereo, you will first need to remove the bezel from the stereo. Then, pull the stereo out of the dashboard and remove the wiring harness.
You need to remove the wiring harness of the stereo and pull it out. It is fairly easy to replace this with something more advanced.
