The procedure is as follows: Insert the key into the ignition switch. Without pushing down, turn the key as far in the counter-clockwise direction as you can. You should hear a click sound from the front end of the seat. The seat is now ready to be removed by lifting on the front portion of the seat (the horn) and lifting upward.
However, sometimes the seats can be fickle. Owners have found that the locking mechanism can be stiff and pushing down on the horn of the seat while turning the key will do the trick.
Take off the seat (by turning your key in the ignition way to the left), and the battery is right there. You then disconnect the 2 cables (positive and negative), remove the rubber strap holding it in there, and then you simply pull the battery out.
A person can remove the seat on Yamaha BW350 motorcycle by depressing the release under the edge of the seat. The seat can then be raised and removed from the bike.
The Yamaha 1200 motorcycle seat is held in place by four retaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts and the seat will come off.
The seat on a Yamaha BW80 motorcycle is removed by taking out the retaining screws under the lip of the seat. It can then be raised up and detached from the hinges.

Look at the ignition key. You remove the seat by turning the key without pushing down on the key to the seat removal location. It says where to turn it to. The seat should then pop up a little in the front.

Remove the 10mm bolt from behing the rear seat. Then pull the rear seat it hooks to the front seat in the front. Remove the bracket there and pull the front.
Remove a bolt (hex) from either side at the bottom of the seat. Near the shock.
key unlocks top section(pillion) which exposes nuts at the rear of main seat. unscrew and slide seat backwards, this will remove the seat.
PUT YOUR KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURN IT TO THE LEFT WITHOUT PUSHING DOWN ON THE KEY.PUSHING DOWN ON THE KEY LOCKS THE STEERING .
It is under the seat toward the front of the seat and rear of the tank. Remove the drivers seat to get to the battery. It maybe be necessary to loosen th tank in several spots to lift the tank slightly. On the Yamaha r1 2004-2008 you have to lift the tank as well to get it out. Good luck!
