How do you repair my speed ometer to my 650 v-star motorcycle?

I have already had to do this... There is a cable that runs from inside(underneath) the speedometer to the front wheel. Make sure both ends are connected properly, also check to see if the cable within the tube is not broken on the ends and reaches both ports. if it does not it will read your speed sporadically or not at all, which was my problem. Its an easy fix and not an expensive part to buy. Only difficulty I had was feeding the new cable through, so be careful.
