After worrying about being the butt of many light bulb jokes and sifting through all those who thought a pot light would help them grow their habit at home, I ended up calling a guy who has a business called "Mr. Potlight". In the end, changing the pot light was easy, once you know how.

Here's what you do:

1. Pull out the whole can that houses the light (the 'can' is the term used for the cylinder that surrounds the light). This is the hardest step because we are not used to taking out the whole light fixture when changing normal lights. Pulling this down takes a little bit of effort and most will be afraid of doing irreparable damage. Grab the outside circular frame and pull downwards away from the ceiling. It should come out fairly easily (don't worry about it falling because the wire attached to the bulb will keep it suspended).

2. Find the plug that attaches to the bulb and detach.

3. Attach the new bulb.

4. Push the entire housing/can back in the ceiling.

5. Turn on the switch. Voila!

Assuming you are speaking about conventional fixtures, those mounted to the home are normally the simple unscrew the bulb type to the more involved - remove a few nuts from the top to expose the inside and then you can change the bulb. Some have a hurricane lamp inside also, once you access the inside, take the hurricane lamp out, replace the bulb, replace the hurricane lamp back, then reassemble. If we are speaking of a different type of lamp, resubmit your question. While the unit is open it is a good time to remove all the dead bugs and wash the glass, etc. (make sure the power is off). Good luck.

The general lamp with a wedge base is pulled straight out to remove it and pushed straight in to install it.

How do you fix the turn signals on a 93 Ford Ranger?

Turn signals that do not work is almost always, a blown fuse, bad bulb, corroded socket, or a defective flasher relay. If the lights come on but do not flash, it is the flasher relay. If the light does not come on, the bulb is bad or the socket is corroded. If one light flashes very fast then your front/rear light may be burnt out. If no lights come on, then your fuse is blown.
