Most Skagen watches have a snap-in, snap-out back. You will need a case back opening tool ($3 to $14) or a slotted jeweler's screw driver or knife blade to pry it open. Do this over a counter or towel in case the battery pops out. Examine and make note of which side of the battery is up. Get the number off the battery, better yet take it with you to Wal-Mart, Radio Shack or anywere else they sell batteries. Buy a replacement, install it, and try to reinstall the back. Good luck!

Do not try placing your Skagen watch face down on a soft towel, on a hard surface, and then then try to mussle in the back, or tap it with a mall or hammer. You very likely will break the crystal.

Without a Case Closing Plier ($15 to $20) or a Case Closing Press ($15 to $50) you will not be able to get the back to snap back in. You could try a conventional vise and size some vinyl or plastic washer to to fit the bezel and protect the crystal/face of the watch, and some flat vinyl/plastic that covers the back of the watch. Align the front and back plastic pieces with the back, carefully insert it in your vice, and tighten until the back snaps in. This could be fatal if you mess up!

A simpler solution is to take your watch to a place that specializes in selling and servicing a variety of watches, hopefull Skagens, maybe a jewelry store, and have them replace the battery. They should have the closing tool and you can expect to pay $10 to $15 for the battery and installation.

If you like Skagens, as I do (I have five of them that I regularly wear--not all at once), you can go on-line and find the appropriate tools to do this. Or, pay the watch store. Many Skagens use up batteries at the rate of every 10 to 15 months. Yes, I purchased the case back closing tool and it works on my Seikos as well.

Also, you can look up Skagen on line and see if they will service your watch. They are located in Reno, Nevada. I damaged a stainless steel mesh band on one, that was currently out of production, and they had the correct replacement, and charged me about $15. That's a bargain for a stainless steel mesh band. I installed the band myself.

Last point--Skagens are really resonable at Costco and other "Big Box" stores and also "on-line." I have purchased them on-line both new and used spending $15 to $45 for a watch that retails for $95 to $145.

There you have it, Milrose

Here's Skagen Denmark Watch Repair form for battery replacement, currently $14.95 including shipping and handling.

I did manage to just clip my skagen watch back into place after a 5 minute struggle without any tools. Just big thumbs.

I found it worked if you place the edge of the back nearest the winding knob in place first. There's a little indent on mine to help with alignment. Then apply firm even pressure to the back. I protected the face and back with soft cloths and leant on it. It popped back into place. It's odd because its the reverse of how you might imagine it goes back on but it worked for me.

Hope this helps someone else avoid the inconvenience and cost of a repair trip.

Matt

Just to save some people some trouble, I noticed on mine, an optically hidden little depression that I used as a lever to pop it open. Clean the underside of your watch with the blunt side of the knife or flat head screw driver and slide it around until it hits this almost invisible slot. On my Skagen 358XSRRD, the top right is where the little slot is. It's about one o'clock to the SKAGEN engraved on the back.

Also, this might save some people some time, my battery was a SR516SW, 6mm or almost 1/4 inch wide, and the side with the plus sign on it faces up and the blank side faces down into the setting.

Hope the picture is clear enough to help.
